Mr. B. G. Colman – New Project (The Automobile in Southern Africa, July, 1960, Vol. 40)
Mr. B. G. Colman, managing director, went into business on his own account in August, 1947, in a small premises of 300 sq. ft. with a staff of one non-European.
Mr. Colman told a representative of The Automobile in Southern Africa: “My first job when we opened up relised 4s. 6d. for a whole day’s work.
It certainly wasn’t heartening for me, but I stuck to my guns and managed to survive the first six months.”
In the following year, Mr. Colman increased his staff to one journeyman and one apprentice and with business prospering, a move was made to larger premises of 800 sq. ft. directly across the road from the original premises.
Today, the company’s workshops are one of the most modern and up o date on the Witwatersrand.
Highly-specialised machines ensure top-quality workmanship of the highest level.
